The Sound
New Sound Brass Band sets an intoxicating mood for dancers with boisterous party-time grooves on the brassy covers of The Trammps’ “Disco Inferno,” Michael Jackson’s “Liberian Girl,” The Jackson Fives’ “I Want You Back,” Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff,” and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” all delivered with a spirited vibe and a touch of swagger.

In the tradition of New Orleans’ own The Soul Rebels and The Rebirth Brass Band, the rambunctious Philadelphia-based New Sound Brass Band blends funk, R&B, gospel and rock with New Orleans street beats and infectious good-time grooves in their invigorating sets. Boasting a powerhouse four-trombone front line, this nine-piece ensemble also delivers thoughtful arrangements and scintillating improvisations in the course of their entertaining shows. As trombonist-leader Michael “Batman” Strickland says, “ I guarantee you by the end of our set you’ll be up and dancing and clapping your hands.” It’s Philly Soul spoken through brass, and they definitely keep the party going.
